Sylvan Heilbrunn (1907-1996) began practicing law in Hudson County, New Jersey in 1929. He relocated his practice to Old Bridge Township (then Madison Township), New Jersey in 1951. He quickly established himself as a real estate and land use expert. Heilbrunn Pape, LLC is the progeny of the law firm started by Sylvan Heilbrunn in 1951.

The firm maintained offices in Old Bridge, New Jersey from 1950 to 2005, then relocated Millstone Township, Monmouth County, in May 2005.

Jonathan M. Heilbrunn and Kenneth L. Pape have practiced together since 1980.
